Pathway
2-year MSc in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at Trinity College Dublin.
2-year Post Master Clinical Training at the Irish Institute for Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
Eligibility for accreditation by The Irish Forum for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IFCAPP) on successful completion of both parts of the overall four-year training.
IFCAPP is a member of The Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP).
The 4-year professional training is overseen by the Irish Institute for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IICAPP).
Graduates are eligible to work with children and adolescents in a variety of mental health settings.
The next intake will commence in September 2025.
The Irish Institute for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IICAPP) is overseeing the four-year professional training which has been running successfully for over 20 years.
It is the only Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy training in Ireland that includes a two-year infant Observation component.
Accreditation
The 4-year professional training is accredited by the Irish Forum for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy IFCAPP. IFCAPP is a member of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy ICP.

What is Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy?
Child and adolescent psychotherapists work with children, teenagers, parents and families. They also work in a variety of settings including Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Early Intervention Teams, paediatric settings, with children in care or other children who have experienced trauma or abuse and in private practice.
Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists are primarily involved in the assessment and treatment of children and their families through long-term individual psychotherapy or briefer interventions when appropriate.
